The platform provides access to large and diverse datasets drawn from deidentified, privacy-protected healthcare data.
April 14, 2026
By: Patrick Lavery
Labcorp, along with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Datavant, has developed a new, AI-powered platform to analyze Alzheimer’s disease data.
The platform provides biopharmaceutical companies and researchers access to large and diverse datasets, plus advanced analytics. The use of deidentified, privacy-protected healthcare data serves to accelerate discovery and shorten development timelines. In addition, it allows for faster and improved identification of patients for clinical trial recruitment.
In essence, insights previously requiring months of data mining now generate in just minutes. The collaborative says this benefits not only researchers and biopharma companies, but also payors and contract research organizations.
Bola Oyegunwa, PhD, Labcorp Executive Vice President and Chief Information and Technology Officer, said this powerfully accelerates Alzheimer’s research.
“We’re redefining what’s possible—compressing months of manual data preparation into minutes,” Oyegunwa said. “That … enables researchers to focus on discovery instead of data engineering, accelerating the insights needed to drive better treatment decisions. This platform is about improving patient outcomes and delivering answers and hope faster for … millions of patients and families.”
Dr. Rowland Illing, Chief Medical Officer, Director, Healthcare and Life Sciences, AWS, said drug development may be shortened by years.
“This collaboration … shows how AI can help reduce the time from hypothesis to actionable insight,” Illing said. “We’re fundamentally changing the scope and scale of insights researchers can generate.”
The platform is completing initial validation this spring, and is expected to expand through 2026. Future versions, the collaboration says, will integrate electronic health records and certain social determinants of health data. In addition, other conditions including inflammatory diseases, cardiometabolic issues, women’s health, and oncology may eventually be studied.
As for Alzheimer’s, the disease currently affects more than 7 million Americans. Annual care costs in the United States exceed $380 billion.
